Literary projects

Proyectos literarios

‘The landscape makes you understand literature, because literature is the memory of the landscape in time’, Josep Pla

At ‘Espais Escrits’, a number of projects are held to publicise the literary legacy of the classics. The main lines of work are involved in digitisation, international outreach, communication and dissemination, and participation.

One of the several projects that stands out is the Mapa Literari Català (Catalan Literary Map, mapaliterari.cat), an international model of literary cartography that combines literature and landscape. A web site where you can consult different points in global geography with associated texts from Catalan literature, along with considerable multimedia content. For more information, click here.

We should also mention the literary tours of the Catalan classics, which are intended as an attractive way of getting to know the legacy of the writer connected with the region. There are currently 70 literary tours all over the Països Catalans taking in places that are now indissolubly linked to their authors and their work, as in the case of Vicent Andrés Estellés and Burjassot, Jesús Moncada and Mequinensa or Miquel Martí i Pol and Roda de Ter, Salvador Espriu and Synera.

The many routes created by members can also be consulted, in Catalan, on the ‘Espais Escrits’ web site itself and there is also a catalogue. For more in-depth knowledge they can be followed virtually on the web site of the Mapa Literari Català.

Another of the projects under way is to promote the reading of Catalan classics in Catalonia’s various libraries. The project Clàssics catalans al vostre Club de Lectura (Catalan classics at your book club), made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Servei General de Biblioteques de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government General Library Services), provides an opportunity for a specialist in a specific author’s work to chair a book club meeting.

Finally, there is the literary quotations project, a web resource that lets you search for outstanding fragments by authors. You can see the project, in Catalan, at the following link: https://www.espaisescrits.cat/ca/que-fem/citacions
